Perhaps mistaken. I think folks tend to congregate around a current interest. That's why I'm in the mix I am now.

The rioting after 10/7 caught me unawares and I didn't understand how that could be. Substack provided awareness of things I needed to research on Israeli history and the historical roots of the current. So that's the reason I'm here for now. But I've noticed there are many authors, writers, and artists on Substack and those circles might be a better fit for you. Just a matter of finding and following a few to get started.

I am actually treating this as a blessing in disguise. I can focus on what I love most. Additionally, I am tired of being afraid to be myself and constantly censoring everything I might say (or even think). The students' evaluations will no longer hover over my head. This doesn’t mean I will become "unhinged"; it simply means I can be even more genuine than I have always strived to be. My last class "episode" helped to cement my decision.

Eva is a trained journalist, whereas I am not and do not possess similar abilities. If I part ways with academia, I also intend to stop paying attention to all the current nonsense happening there. My plan is to return to my own writing. The project I had put aside focuses on Hannah Arendt. I have been writing about Edith Stein, Rosa Luxemburg, and Regina Jonas. My current work—delayed by all the current "stuff"—is centered on Hannah Arendt. My goal is to compile these four figures into a single publication. This might make me less relevant to Substack, as it seems more politically oriented than I initially thought, unless I’m mistaken. Of course, the current environment tends to pull you in like a vacuum.
